Farmhouse Cafe & Tea Room
(Flower & Herb Barn Nursery)
5171 Bean Blossom Rd, Nineveh, IN 46164
The Farm House Cafe & Tea Room is one of the most unique little restaurants you'll be fortunate to experience, sitting on the grounds of the beautiful Flower & Herb Barn Nursery in Nashville, Indiana (the mailing address is Nineveh, but the Farm House Cafe & Tea Room is recognized as a Nashville eatery.) The dining area is quaint and intimate, with only about 10 tables and room for 20 or so guests (not official, but based on my guesstimation). There is also patio dining when nice weather allows.
The cafe sits on the same property as the nursery, it has many varieties of flowers (annuals and perennials), shrubs, trees, etc. Within the nursery you'll find among other things, an old cabin and barn. Within them they have a variety of items you can admire, or better yet, purchase and take home with you. The nursery grounds is also strewn with antique lawn furniture and trellises. Everything there is for sale.
Farm House Cafe & Tea Room Head Chef/General Manager Mandy Smith leads a professional staff serving up lunch daily (except Mondays) from 11a-3p. They close from 3-5p to prepare for dinner service, which runs from 5p-8p Thursdays thru Saturdays.
Along with the fantastic food experience at The Farm House Cafe & Tea Room, there is live music either in the restaurant, on the patio, or on a nice day, out in the garden area of the nursery. The music is usually unamplified, offering a pleasant experience while still being able to converse comfortably with your dining party. Full disclosure, I've been featured as one of the guitarist/singers and had so much fun playing for the guests from all over the state, and some visitors from outside Indiana.
Brown County Tourism Director Jane Ellis said the restaurant/nursery is a well-sought after destination for both locals and county visitors. "The Flower & Herb Barn Nursery has a fantastic tea room and offers a great menu," she said. "And you need to give yourself plenty of time to roam the grounds after you eat. They have so many neat things to see from antiques to their beautiful flowers and other nursery items."
From the homemade soups, to hearty salads and succulent entrees and desserts, the Farmhouse Cafe & Tea Room delivers the goods.
"We put extra love into every plate," Mandy said. "We know folks drive out of their way to dine with us and we want each visit to be memorable. On Fridays and Saturdays we offer USDA Prime Rib, and as always, fresh caught 'air dropped' salmon.
"All of our proteins are grass fed, local, non-steroidal and GMO free," she went on to explain. "From Fischer Farms, and Red Frazier Bison, and for our Coffee, fresh beans from Side Track Coffee Roasters."
Reviews from all platforms point to entrees like the steaks and ribs, seasoned and mouth-watering. "Folks really like our ribs," Mandy said. "They fall off the bone, and are seasoned to perfection. You really don't need BBQ sauce!"
All desserts are made in-house, and the freshness and flavor reflect that. "I love creating our desserts all fresh from our kitchen," she said. "Cobblers with fresh local fruit, my 'love cakes,' and any cake you can imagine, including triple layer with cheese cake in the middle."
If that sounds like something you have to try, it is! And the drive to the Farmhouse Cafe and Tea Room is so worth the trip. Not only is your destination filled with fresh, homemade food, but an adventure outside awaits your arrival as well.
